Battleground World War II By Easy Eight

Battleground WWII Game by Easy Eight

We started playing this game in 2012 after one of us (me ) finally forked over the money so we could try something new. I went ahead and bought the rules set and miniatures direct from Easy Eight. Of course, before you can play any tabletop game you have to have the figures and the terrain ready to go. This was the only disappointing thing about the process. The figures were very cartoony and not detailed at all. On the bright side, I tend to not spend a lot of time painting figures that aren’t going to turn out well … Continue reading

What is the real definition of a Grognard?

Well, here it is, Saturday morning. I got Mystery Science Theater playing (Episode 509 “The Girl In Lover’s Lane”), which features one of my favorite character names, Big Stupid (aka Bix Dugan). Anyway, I use that time to also catch up on my favorite blogs while sipping the overpriced hot brown water they label as ‘coffee’ at QuickTrip. It was during my routine blog perusal that I caught someone describing a fellow gamer as a ‘Grognard’. Their reasoning for doing so was simply based on the fact that the person was over 40 and grumpy. I couldn’t believe this gross … Continue reading

Computer games: Oldies but Goodies

Sid Meier's Railrods - A classic game that still holds up

Over the last couple of years I’ve updated and reinstalled Windows several times on my desktop. This latest iteration was when I upgraded my motherboard and memory over the holidays. I started reloading some of the essential work related software like Visual Studio, Adobe Suite, and of course SQL Express. Once I get the work essentials done, I then look at what entertainment software I’m going to put back on my machine. In that process, something interesting happens. I find there is a handful of games that I repeatedly reinstall no matter what the age. They are timeless (IMHO) and … Continue reading

PC Gamer’s List Of Top 100 Games Leaves Off The Classics

The kids at PC Gamer posted a list of what they consider the top 100 games, then throw in the disclaimer that these are the best games today. They have some from the mid 90’s but most everything else is recent visual masturbation. They completely ignored the ground breakers, the innovators, and the pioneers. So, being a gamer that has seen them all since 1982, I’ve decided to add just a few of my favorites from the dawn of computer gaming. These would be on a TRUE list of the top 100 PC Games EVER. Kings Quest (1985) and King’s … Continue reading

Knights and Brides – Strategy Games on PartyGamePlace.com

Knights and Brides game

This game is a very welcomed surprise! I’m used to playing a lot of the arcade type games that partygameplace.com offers, but I decided to try a strategy game for a change. I was amazed at the graphics. Everything from the intro to the gameplay. There numerous help screens that pan down as you progress telling you what options are available. Throughout the game there are little ‘gamelets’ that take you to different arcade style games like jousting. Here you use the money you’ve made to buy better equipment or give yourself an advantage psychologically. Try it and I think you’ll … Continue reading
